Located about 9 km north of Poitiers in Jaunay-Clan (about an hour's drive from Chez Robineau), the Futuroscope amusement park is a wonderland of science and technology where you will be absorbed into a world of sounds, images and sensations of some of the most advanced film-projection techniques.
Recent new attractions include:
The Extraordinary Journey - fly like a bird around the world, suspended in your seat
Sebastien Loeb Racing Xperience - a 5D virtual reality drive with 9-times World Rally Driver's Champion Loeb (using the HTC Vive VR headset)
Illusio - magic and holograms bring a child's dream of becoming a magician to life
Studio 16: Planet Power - a 3D adventure aboard the Solar Impulse, the world's first solar-powered aircraft
Through Thomas Pesquet's Eyes - a 4K IMAX Laser film of French astronaut Pesquet's 196-day mission to the International Space Station
There are many more attractions to explore around the park, as well as eight restaurants and plenty of gift shops. The day ends with an aquatic fantasy show on the lake by Cirque du Soleil, complete with laser projections, water fountains and pyrotechnics. Don't forget to pick up a free translation headset for English commentaries at some of the attractions (take your own 3.5mm plug-in headphones, if you have them).
Opening times can vary during the summer, but generally the park is open each day between 10am and 10pm.
Admission: €45 for adults (aged 17 & over), €37 for children (aged 5-16), free for infants under 5
Cheaper tickets are available by booking in advance, booking as a group of 4 or more, or by choosing to enter later in the day. Car parking costs €9 per car (€4 after 4:30pm) and an administration fee may also be charged for online bookings.
